This course provides a basic understanding of different types of valves, their characteristics, the advantages, and disadvantages of each valve to recognize their distinct functions to use in the proper applications. Different types of actuators used to drive these valves (Electrical, Mechanical, Pneumatic) and their advantages and disadvantages of their proper usage will be covered. Finally, the course convenes to the last part which consist of troubleshooting the hardware and common problems associated with these valves and actuators.

This course dedicates time in the disassembling and reassembling all the valves which includes Butterfly, Gate, Globe, Needle, Metering, Diaphragm, Relief (blow-off), Regulating, Solenoid (electric control) and Maxon valves. Additional time will be spent on operating and dismantling of actuators in the lab. Participants will learn how to use a 4-20 ma signal to drive some of the pneumatic valves.
